Looking for things to do this weekend in Oshawa? You have a strong one ahead: the last farmers' market of the season, two Oshawa Generals home games, a family Halloween evening at the Oshawa Museum, and three nights of live music at the Regent Theatre. Here is the local rundown for Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25, with links to official pages so you can confirm times before you head out.
Friday, October 23
Start with the Oshawa Centre Farmers' Market, open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the south parking lot at 419 King St W. This is the final market of the season, so it is the last chance of the year to stock up on local produce, baking, preserves, and crafts before the market closes until spring.
The Oshawa Generals are home Friday night, hosting the Peterborough Petes at 7:05 p.m. at Tribute Communities Centre, 99 Athol St E. Grab a pre-game bite in downtown Oshawa first; the rink is steps from King Street.
If live music is more your pace, the Biltmore Theatre at 39 King St E hosts The Ultimate Meat Loaf Tribute at 6:30 p.m. (a 19-plus seated show), while the Regent Theatre at 50 King St E presents Fleetwood Mac Mania at 8 p.m., a tribute to Fleetwood Mac. Both sit in the heart of downtown, so dinner and a show are an easy walk.
Saturday, October 24
Saturday starts easy: the Oshawa Markets indoor market at 555 Simcoe St S is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 250-plus vendors under one roof if the weather turns. The big family pick is Halloween at the Harbour at the Oshawa Museum, 1450 Simcoe St S, from 6 to 8 p.m. The museum opens its historic houses for a spooky evening of Victorian decor and ghostly stories. Admission is $7.50 per person, $5 for children under 5, and free for Oshawa Historical Society members and kids under 2; tickets are on SimpleTix through the museum's What's On page.
For older kids and teens, Fear Forest is an indoor haunted house at Battle City Laser Tag, 60 Celina St, running select evenings from 7 p.m. with timed, date-specific tickets around $16 to $20 online. Saturday night, the Regent Theatre presents Breakfast in America, a Supertramp tribute, at 8 p.m. Dinner before the show? Mathilda's, our plant-based favourite, is steps from the theatre.
Sunday, October 25
Sunday is a slower day. Parkwood Estate, the National Historic Site at 270 Simcoe St N, is open 1 to 5 p.m. with guided tours and its 11-acre garden, a beautiful late-October walk. In the afternoon, take a stroll along the lake at Lakeview Park and the waterfront trail, with the beach quiet and the leaves turning.
Then the puck drops again: the Oshawa Generals host the Sudbury Wolves at 6:05 p.m. at Tribute Communities Centre, 99 Athol St E. Or make it a music night instead: Choir! Choir! Choir! brings its interactive sing-along to the Regent at 8 p.m.
Whatever you choose, get out and enjoy it. Oshawa's best weekends are spent downtown, at the rink, by the lake, or at a theatre, and this one has all of it. See you out there.
